The Theta Lambda Chapter of the Eta Sigma Alpha National Homeschool Honors Society was founded in 2007 by Professor Amy Mandelker, Ph.D. Graduates of the chapter are currently attending Bryn Mawr College, Cambridge University UK, Duke University, Drew University, Swarthmore College, University of North Carolina, University of Pennsylvania, Villanova University, and Yale University.  The chapter is currently inactive.

Eligibility for membership and information about active New Jersey chapters is detailed on the national website. In addition to these requirements, mandatory for membership in the Theta Lambda Chapter was evidence of high achievement in one area of academic or extracurricular pursuit and a record of significant community service.

The Alumni of the Theta Lambda Chapter continue to organze their annual community service project, Share the Love, Gluten Free.  The Chapter also sponsored the Arete Book Award Scholarship which was bestowed upon a graduating senior from the Chapter who plans to attend a four year college or university.  The Arete Book Award was entirely merit based, however, the awards committee takes need into account in making its decision.

A Letter From Our Faculty Sponsors

Amy Mandelker, Ph.D. Faculty Sponsor and Chapter founder

Mrs. Nadia Emery, Co-Sponsor

Dear Sir or Madame:

It is with great pleasure that we are writing in support of “Project Gluten Free,” a food drive organized by the Theta Lambda Chapter of the Eta Sigma Alpha National Homeschool Honor Society.  The Eta Sigma Alpha National Homeschool Honor Society is comparable to the National Honor Society. It is made available through a rigorous selection process to exceptional homeschooling students who demonstrate high academic achievement and a strong record in community service.  The Theta Lambda Chapter was established in Princeton, New Jersey in 2005 under the umbrella of the Classical Homeschool Academy of Princeton, serving the homeschooling community in the Princeton region since 1998.
In addition to meeting national standards for membership, the Theta Lambda Chapter requires its members to engage in a significant community service each year.  In academic year, 2012-2013, the Theta Lambda Chapter has voted to address the special dietary needs that are challenging food pantries and soup kitchens in these troubled economic times. In a multi-faceted approach, the Chapter members intend to educate themselves about the needs of food pantries and soup kitchens with special sensitivity to food allergies, as well as to raise funds and solicit donations to supply these needs in the counties represented by our Chapter members. Additionally, the Chapter will create a website to raise public awareness about special dietary needs of food banks.
We appreciate your support of our project and your kind consideration in responding to requests from our Chapter members.

      Sincerely,

Amy Mandelker, Ph.D., Sponsor, Theta Lambda Chapter
